In a compassionate environment, Hospice Calgary supports children, teens and adults coping with life-threatening illness, sudden or expected death.
At our two centres of care, Sage Centre and Rosedale Hospice, our specialists provide individual counselling, group support, workshops and 24-hour end-of-life care.
Sage Centre, located in Deerfoot Meadows, is home to our counselling centre, support groups, workshops and administration. Our other centre, Rosedale Hospice, located in the quiet NW neighbourhood of Rosedale, provides 24-hour end-of-life care.
We know transitions take time—we are here as long as needed.
Hospice Calgary offers the only professional, specialized services for grieving children in southern Alberta. Sage Centre counsellors specialize in helping families with children and teens adjust to the changes in their lives.
Using individual, family counselling and group support, we compassionately support people through grief. Our child and youth specialists are recognized experts in end-of-life, grief and trauma counselling for youth under 19 years of age. Sage Centre counsellors specialize in helping families with children and teens adjust to the changes in their lives when someone close to them is living with a life-threatening illness or has died. Sessions may include art and play therapies, writing or other activities that help explore and express grief in a healthy manner.
Hospice Calgary also offers group bereavement support for children and teens. Kids Club is an eight week grief group where children, ages 5–12, meet in a safe and supportive place to learn about loss and grief through art, music and play. A parent or guardian component focuses on parenting through grief.
Dream catchers is a ten week support group for grieving teens that offers a safe place to explore and express feelings through creative activities.
We also offer a Mentoring Through Grief program which matches bereaved youth mentors, ages 14–24 with grieving children ages 5–12. Mentors and mentees are previous clients and have been referred to the program by a Hospice Calgary counsellor. Participants meet once a month for fun activities and 1:1 mentoring in a group setting. Membership (both as mentor and mentee) to Mentoring Through Grief is based on the recommendation of a Sage Centre counsellor.
Hospice Calgary also works with terminally individuals and their families. Whether newly-diagnosed with a palliative illness or facing a change in condition, Hospice Calgary offers counselling, support groups and guidance to navigate through uncertain times.
