About
Volunteer Alberta (The Association of Volunteer Centres and Volunteer Engaging Organizations) has been a leader and voice in the nonprofit sector since 1990. Working with rural and urban communities across the province, we have grown and transformed to accommodate the ever-changing needs of the sector.
Today, we continue to represent the diverse voices of our sector. We champion and celebrate volunteer centres, volunteer-engaging organizations, volunteerism, and civic engagement in Alberta. We’re looked to for expert advice, guidance, programs, services, and resources to enhance the sector’s work.

Program Description
Our goal is to help strengthen nonprofit organizations of all sizes, from all sub-sectors, and in all communities throughout Alberta. We provide access to relevant resources, programs, and services that address the needs of the sector and support volunteerism and civic engagement:
- Membership: We believe that connecting a network of individuals, organizations, and community partners strengthen Alberta at the local level. We connect organizations with resources, supports, and networks that can help them engage volunteers and strengthen operations to achieve their mission.
- OASSIS Employee Benefits: As partners with OASSIS, we offer access to an OASSIS Employee Group Benefit plan to our members.
- Volunteer Screening Program (VSP): Our Volunteer Screening Program (VSP) helps organizations implement effective volunteer screening practices, enhance their volunteer engagement strategies and develop a deeper understanding of volunteer screening practices. With the Government of Alberta’s support, VSP provides funding and education to eligible nonprofits to support their screening processes.
- Resources: We have gathered some key resources that shed light on the different ways the nonprofit sector, volunteerism, and civic engagement support our society. We continue to monitor social trends, explore statistical information, and gather inspiring resources that support organizations in their day-to-day work. The resources we provide include tipsheets, templates, research reports, and webinars that cover a wide range of topics related to volunteerism and civic engagement.
- Youth Engagement: Supported by Canada Service Corps, Youth @ the Table is a province-wide initiative seeking to engage youth ages 18-30 at the governance level of nonprofit organizations. Participants will spend at least six months collaborating with nonprofit organizations in their communities to address social issues they care about. They will also collaborate with other youth across Alberta to identify good practices and principles for youth engagement at the governance level.
