Program Description

The Mentorship Program introduces immigrant youth (grades 7 – 12) to Calgary through afterschool programs, peer mentoring, field trips and one-on-one support. Our mentors provide a support system by offering school tours, translation and friendship. The Transitioning into Post-Secondary Program (TIPS) prepares newcomer high school youth for their transition into post-secondary education or training, by matching them with post-secondary student mentors who provide information, resources and support.

he Afterschool Program works with immigrant youth throughout their school years (grades 1-12) and focuses on keeping youth positively engaged by providing academic support, English development, recreational and healthy life skills.

The RBC Youth Empowerment Program uses a holistic approach to help high school immigrant and English learners to overcome challenges in the classroom. We offer free tutoring in math, sciences, literacy, and writing.

The In School Settlement Program operates in schools across the city offering comprehensive, client centered settlement services, and delivering information sessions and workshops on housing, employment, Canadian customs, traditions, and more.

The Volunteer Resources department was developed in 2016. CBFY believes that volunteerism is an influential tool of engaging both long-term and new Canadians in helping to overcome the challenges faced by immigrant and refugee youth and their families.
