Program Description
I provide mental wellness promotion and prevention to children, youth, and families. Project REACH programing develops and delivers developmentally appropriate, evidence based programming that meets the objectives of the Mental Health Capacity Building initiative. Delivering of programing involves large and small group work in 9 colony schools within Prairieland School District, and focuses on increasing knowledge, building skills and fostering abilities that enable others to better their own mental health and wellness. Each colony has its own unique needs and diverse ages, therefore it is essential to work as part of a team to recognize, understand and adapt to the changing needs of mental health and wellness on the colonies. Part of my role is to become a “go to” for colony teachers in relation of wellness resources. This position requires implementing knowledge of mental wellness relative to developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families. The goal is to overall support positive behavior in children and youth in becoming creative problem-solvers, more self-aware, self-regulation/mood management, respect for themselves and others, resilience, and compassion and kindness. This has been through curriculums such as Kimochi, Zones of Regulation, Conflict Resolution, Character Education, monthly character themes, school projects in relation to kindness, and active and mindfulness activities. Future support programs purchased for colony school year 2021-2022 are leadership/mentorship kits for a leadership program, more items for calm down kits, and Worry Woes. Project REACH has purchased a variety of social/emotional curriculums, activities from Ever Active Schools, and mindfulness items that teachers can sign out on an ongoing basis.
