Program Description

Northern Lights Youth Justice Committee: The YJC Program provides an alternative to formal court proceedings when dealing with young people alleged to have committed certain offences. Youth Justice Committees involve trained community members who meet in-person and/or virtually with persons harmed, accused young people, aged 12-17, and their parents/caregivers to negotiate an appropriate way for the young person to make amends for their actions.

Northern Lights Restorative Justice Program: Restorative justice refers to an approach to justice that seeks to repair harm by providing an opportunity for those harmed and those who take responsibility for the harm to communicate about and address their needs in the aftermath of a crime or conflict. The Restorative Justice Initiative and Program will seek to provide conferencing and dialogue opportunities through defined referral processes initiated from within the criminal justice system or from within the general community. The program will be inclusive of both youth and adults.
