Welcome AMP's New Partnership Engagement Manager

Partnership Engagement Manager

“As Partnership Engagement Manager, I am excited to support the work of schools and mentoring agencies across Alberta.” – Michael Janz

Michael Janz is excited to join the Alberta Mentoring Partnership team as our new Partnership Engagement Manager. Michael has extensive experience in public policy, education, and mentoring. He is passionate about public education and continues to serve as Board Chair of the Edmonton Public School Board in his second term as elected trustee (2010-2017).
Prior to holding elected office, Michael supported neighbourhood engagement, promoting Edmonton’s 154 community leagues as Marketing Director of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues. He loves libraries and was a six-year volunteer on the Board of the Edmonton Public Library. He has volunteered for numerous other non-profit organizations and political organizations.
He attained a Masters in Education Administration and Leadership from the University of Alberta (2014) and during his undergraduate term was elected as President of the Students’ Union (2007). He lived in Residence for four hears, holding many different leadership positions, including Rules Administrator for the Lister Dodgeball League.
He has been honored with the “Top 40 Under 40” award from Avenue Magazine (2012) and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012). Prior to moving to Edmonton, Michael grew up in rural Alberta and treasures many memories of canoeing around Lake Elkwater and exploring the Cypress Hills Provincial Park.
AMP’s Partnership Engagement Manager will be the face of AMP in the community and will work closely with AMP’s existing and prospective partner organizations to support AMP’s strategic priorities: increase mentoring opportunities for kids across Alberta and to increase partners’ organizational capacity for mentoring. This role will connect with AMP’s partner organizations to update them on new and existing tools, discuss their program challenges, and offer expertise in optimizing their program. This connection will help AMP assess the need for services among current partners and establish ongoing communication. Michael is passionate about the power of mentoring and the work that we are undertaking to ensure every child who needs a mentor has access to a mentor.
Over the next few months, Michael will be in touch with your organization, over the phone or in person, and looks forward to working with you to build capacity in the mentoring movement and help celebrate the good work you are doing.
