Welcome AMP's Newest Partners – November 2014

We are thrilled to welcome the following new partners this month:

Piikani Traditional Knowledge Society

Piikani Traditional Knowledge Society

Piikani Traditional Knowledge Society is dedicated to preserving the Blackfoot culture through programs aimed at youth and families. Elders from the community are the primary resource, serving the Youth from the surrounding communities of Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, Pincher Creek and Blairmore. These communities are the primary focus, but they do work with neighbouring tribes within the Blackfoot Confederacy that include Siksika, Kainai and Amskapi Pikuni. Working directly with youth providing one-on-one and group sessions with elders, Piikani Traditional Knowledge Society helps youth learn the importance of cultural identification in helping to reach self-actualization.

Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society

Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society
Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society is committed to building on the strengths of Aboriginal children, youth and their families to enable them to develop spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally so they can walk proudly in both the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities.
Among many other programs, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Societyoperates Coyote Pride, a mentoring (“buddy”) program for Aboriginal pre-teens in grades 7 to 9. Youth participate in cultural activities with mentors. Mentors encourage youth to have a healthy lifestyle though traditional teachings and positive role model behavior. Coyote Pride matches Aboriginal youth and Aboriginal mentors who emphasize the importance of education and cultural values. Groups are established at each school that is a part of the program.

Mental Health Capacity Building – Team for Success

Mental Health Capacity Building – Team for Success
The Mental Health Capacity Building in Schools Initiative (MHCB) is led by Alberta Health Services in collaboration with Alberta Education, and funded through grants from Alberta Health. The purpose of the initiative is to establish projects that provide the staffing and support required to implement an integrated, school-based community mental health promotion, prevention, and early intervention program. The projects are locally planned, coordinated and implemented through partnerships with Alberta Health Services Zones, school jurisdictions, parents, community agencies and other regional service providers.
