Program Description

Growing Opportunities

Growing Opportunities (referred to as “GO”) assists and supports at risk pregnant women in creating healthy lifestyles for themselves and their babies. Since 1996, GO has provided services to at-risk pregnant women with nutritional supplements, counseling, education, resources and connected them to community services. A home-based service is delivered by program staff, which includes a Nurse, Support Worker and Life Skills Worker, with access to a Nutritionist. Postnatal, a client who is breastfeeding is eligible to receive support until the babe is 9 months old. This program is partially funded by Public Health Agency of Canada – Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program.

Car Seats for Kids

Car Seats for Kids is an ongoing service resource that provides car seats to families who are in need in Strathmore and Wheatland County. An annual car seat roundup is held in conjunction with Strathmore Public Health, the Strathmore Fire Department and local RCMP.

Post Partum Depression Support Group

Post Partum Depression Support Group provides moms and babes with two 8-week evidence based programs per year.

Workshops

Workshops are organized annually for the community based on topics related to ″A Community Approach to Healthy Children″.  For the past three years the focus has been on transdisciplinary training related to post partum depression.
