Program Description

Forensic Adolescent Program is a team of health care professionals who provide assessment and treatment for youth aged 12-18 who are experiencing both legal and mental health issues. This team includes Social Work, Recreation Therapy, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Nursing.

The “Recreation Therapy” service utilizes volunteers as mentors with the forensic youth with whom we work. The support that is inherent in the mentor relationship is the basis on which the treatment goals are ultimately reached.

Volunteers are provided the proper training and support required to assist the youth in decreasing perceived barriers, increasing leisure skills and experiencing the benefits of healthy recreation. Volunteers work under the Therapeutic Recreation model, which strives to assist youth to become independent in the pursuit of healthy recreation options.

Meetings with mentees occur under the supervision of our Recreation Therapists on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm in Calgary, AB.
