About
Founded by H.R.H. Prince Philip in 1956 and brought to Canada in the 70′s, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, is the highest achievement a youth can receive in Canada, and it is open to all youth 14-24! The Award aims to develop self-esteem, self-respect, self-reliance, and citizenship by encouraging and rewarding youth for achievement in volunteer work, physical fitness, outdoor pursuits, and skill development.
Unlike other awards and scholarships, it is noncompetitive and non-academic. Each participant devises, with the assistance of an adult leader/mentor, a set of goals. As long as participants dedicate themselves to these goals, they will receive the Award!
Mentors play a huge role in supporting and encouraging youths through the programme either one-on-one or as leaders of a group. Mentors empower youth to explore opportunities to engage in their community, choose interests, set goals, record their activities, and submit their Award applications. Our mission is to provide the opportunity and support for as many youths as possible to complete The Award, and utilize its benefits as they move forward towards their goals and become stewards in their communities.

Program Description
The Award programme has three levels, reflecting age and development, which are categorized as:
- Bronze: 6 months
- Participants must be 14 and older
- Silver: 6 months (Direct entry 12 months)
- Participants must be 15 and older
- Gold: 12 months (Direct entry 18 months)
- Participants must be 16 and older
