About
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo has been creating friendships since 1979. Our accreditation came in 1980. We started out matching Big Brothers with Little Brothers and have grown to include a variety of different programs that serve both boys and girls. For thirty years we have been serving the youth of this area by providing them with the highest quality, volunteer mentoring programs. In 2002 we began matching girls with mentors and in October of 2003 we changed our name in order to be identified as a non gender specific association within the area known as Wood Buffalo.

Program Description
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo has three types of programs they offer. Their community-based program is a one-to-one mentorship program based on activities that aim to boost self-esteem and provide positive role models. This program includes Big and Little Matches, Couples/Families Matches and Friend for a Day. The in-school mentoring program is literacy-based and is a one-on-one program that has the adult meeting with the child at their school once a week.
A pilot project call Full Circle Mentoring is our latest partnership program. The mentoring program is a collaborative partnership with the Alberta Mentoring Partnership, the Nistawoyou Association Friendship Center, Northeast Child and Family Services, Father Turcotte Catholic School, Composite High School, Greely Road School, Dr. Clark Public School, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo.
The program is designed to serve First Nation, Metis and Inuit youth in grades K-12. The program will follow the school calendar. The program will run approximately 35 sessions during the school year. Each session will take place after the school day once a week.
The goal of the program is to provide First Nation, Metis and Inuit youth with a positive mentoring experience, and to increase their cultural heritage knowledge while having fun. Mentors and Mentees will showcase their new skills and friendships during Aboriginal Day Celebrations in June.
