Skillcity Institute is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 2015. We inspire and prepare young people in Alberta for the fast-changing world of work.
Careers & Enterprise Education: We expose young people to careers and industries through Education Business Partnership (EBP) initiatives; we organize workplace visits and invite professionals and companies to schools and summer camps to share their career journeys and insights with Q & A sessions about trending occupations, must-have STEAM skills in the digital age, and a variety of activities to inspire young people to develop skills that will set them up for success in the future.
Mentoring: We provide bespoke mentoring (school, community, corporate, career or peer mentoring); Alternative support system for young people at risk of disengaging from education, particularly vulnerable immigrant youth from disadvantaged backgrounds needing community-based mentoring; youth in group homes lacking parental guidance needing relationship-based mentoring, as well as young people in need of role models in their fields of interest.
Workforce Development: We promote and engage in workforce development initiatives and projects designed to address skills gaps and skills mismatch in Alberta industries.
We provide work-related learning programs for elementary schools, high schools and colleges in Alberta and beyond. Our programs connect schools with businesses and support effective careers education, advice and guidance strategies.
Employers and their employees help to inspire, motivate and open doors for young people. We help businesses develop corporate social responsibility programs by brokering work experience, employee volunteering and workplace visits.
For Young People:
We help young people of Alberta gain employability skills and move into education, employment and training through mentoring and individualized supports. Get in touch if you are, or would like to refer, a young person in need of support.
