AMP Existing Mentor Training
Supporting volunteers to effectively mentor young people begins with initial and ongoing training. AMP's Existing Mentor Training provides mentors with a foundational understanding of mentoring before they are matched. It is designed to be supplemented with ongoing, program-specific training and support.
Please note: The AMP Existing Mentor Training will be available until November 2026. After that, it will be replaced by Foundations of Mentoring, Canada's national introductory mentor training.
- Orientation for volunteer mentors (youth and adults)
- Free to access
- Five self-paced online modules
- Approximately one hour to complete
- Progress can be saved and completed later
- Certificate available upon completion
- Intended as an orientation to be supplemented with ongoing training
- Teachers with an admin account can review participant completion
- Can be used with CTS Course – HSS 1050 (Introduction to Mentorship)
What You Will Learn
The orientation introduces mentors to the core concepts of mentoring and what it means to be a mentor.
The program includes 5 modules and a check for understanding:
- The basics of mentoring
- The importance of mentoring
- The role of the mentor
- The support you can expect from your mentoring program
- Introduction to the dynamics of building a positive mentoring relationship
