Program Description

Summer Garden Program

The Summer Garden Program runs weekly from May 1 to September 30 and engages youth ages 4–18 in hands-on learning through community gardening. Junior youth (ages 11–14) also develop leadership by practicing public speaking, organizing group activities, and leading crafts, games, and teamwork-based projects.

Mentors can be adults or older teens who enjoy working outdoors and supporting youth in a positive, encouraging way. No gardening experience is required—just patience, reliability, and a willingness to guide junior youth in leadership and teamwork. Time commitment is 2 hours per week during the program season.

Scrabble & Games Club

The Scrabble & Games Club meets weekly from October 1 to April 30 for youth ages 7–18. Through board games, strategy activities, and positive social interaction, youth strengthen vocabulary, focus, problem-solving, and character skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Mentors should enjoy working with kids and youth, have a patient and friendly attitude, and be comfortable facilitating games. No special skills required—just a passion for helping youth learn and grow. Time commitment is 2 hours per week during the program season.

Earth Drums

Earth Drums is a world drumming circle offered weekly to monthly for families and teens. Youth build rhythm, teamwork, creativity, and multicultural understanding as they experience global drumming traditions in a welcoming and inclusive space.

Mentors do not need prior drumming experience—enthusiasm and a willingness to learn alongside participants are welcome. Ideal mentors enjoy music, cultural diversity, and creating a supportive group atmosphere. Time commitment varies from weekly to monthly depending on the schedule.

Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program (JYSEP)

This weekly program for youth ages 11–14 helps junior youth explore their strengths, develop their unique talents, and express themselves creatively. Participants build friendships, reflect on meaningful themes, and work together on service projects that contribute to a better world.

Mentors (called “animators”) should enjoy guiding early teens, encouraging reflection, and supporting positive group dynamics. No previous experience is needed—training is provided, and a caring, consistent presence is what matters most. Time commitment is approximately 1–2 hours per week.

Emerging Leaders Program

The Emerging Leaders Program is a weekly drop-in workshop series for ages 11–16, offered in partnership with the Airdrie Public Library. Youth explore leadership, communication, conflict management, financial literacy, belonging, and other life skills while building confidence and preparing to contribute to their community.

Mentors should enjoy working with pre-teens and teens and have an interest in leadership, youth development, or community engagement. No special expertise is required—just dependability and a supportive attitude. Time commitment is 2 hours per week during workshop periods.
