About
The Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre is a not for profit organization rooted in the protection and recovery of today’s most innocent and vulnerable – our children. Our mission is to work in an integrated, trauma informed environment to treat abused children, youth, and their families, support their recovery and seek to stop the cycle of abuse.
Region
Alberta Central.
Program Description
Children and youths are referred to the CACAC either by Central Region Children's Services or the RCMP. They complete a Child Forensic Interview (CFI) with an RCMP member and have the opportunity to talk about their experiences. The CACAC supports the child, youth and their parents/caregivers every step of the way. The CACAC offers court preparation so that clients know what to expect in court, as well as the opportunity to give testimony from the remote testimony room located within the CACAC. If clients must attend court in person, the CACAC provides court accompaniment. There are two facility dogs at the centre to help calm nervous clients and offer some comfort. Clients of the CACAC are welcome to apply to be part of the Climbing Tree Mentorship Program to be paired with an adult volunteer mentor from the community.
