Nominate a child or youth for the 17th annual Great Kids Award – recognizing them for making positive contributions in the face of adversity.

Do you know a young person who shone while experiencing life’s challenges?
Consider nominating a young person for a Great Kids Award. This year, the Award will recognize children and youth, ages five to 18, who have made positive contributions despite hardships. These include managing a physical or mental illness, standing up against bullying or overcoming other difficult life circumstances. Still, these young people have gone above and beyond for others and their communities.
One example of a great kid is 15 year-old Darian, who faced grief and trauma due to an unstable living situation. As his circumstances became more difficult, he sought help. He used drawing, writing, music and humour to overcome his grief. Eventually, he became a role model to other youth and helped them change their lives.
Although Darian already won the 2016 Great Kids Award, you can nominate a kid like him for the 2017 award. What’s in it for them? The Minister of Human Services will send all nominees a certificate and letter of recognition. Award recipients will also receive:

  • An invitation to an awards ceremony, including a special meal sponsored by Fantasyland Hotel
  • A night’s stay with their families or caregivers at the Fantasyland Hotel
  • A West Edmonton Mall attractions pass
  • A special trophy from Human Services

Alberta’s great kids are valued for their positive contributions to our communities. Nominate one you know today. Nominations close on December 16, 2016. For more information, visit www.greatkids.alberta.ca.
