AMP News – We Need Your Input!

Opportunity to Provide Input in the Alberta Mentoring Partnership’s Evaluation

Mentors are being asked to provide their thoughts to the Alberta Mentoring Partnership (AMP) through a survey because their ideas are important to guide future decisions.  Specifically they will assist AMP with their provision of resources and support to the mentoring sector.

Completion of this survey will take about 10 minutes of your time and is being administered by Catalyst Research and Development an external evaluator. All of the information you provide is confidential and will be kept anonymous. Results will be summarized at a group level to protect and respect individual contributions.

Please click on this link to begin the survey:

Upon completion of the survey, mentors will be invited to provide their contacts (first name and email address) to be entered to a draw for one of two $25.00 iTunes gift cards.  Please note that personal information will be unlinked to survey responses.

In order for the results to be as comprehensive as possible, we are asking for your help. Please send the link to this survey to any mentor for whom you think this questionnaire is relevant.

Please complete the survey before midnight, October 3, 2013.

Nominate a Hero

What can we do individually or collectively to create safer, more caring environments and societies? When faced with incidences of bullying, violence or exploitation, either as victim or witness, how does one respond?
Perhaps you know someone who has been active in reducing bullying and other violence or has responded to it with an act of extraordinary bravery, compassion or commitment. Perhaps someone has taken steps to build safer, more caring schools and communities, preventing such incidents from occurring or recurring.
The Society for Safe and Caring Schools & Communities (Safe and Caring) considers such acts to be heroic, and we want to hear from you. The HEROES of a Safe and Caring World Awards (HEROES Awards) recognizes individuals and organizations who demonstrate a commitment to creating safe, caring, healthy and inclusive schools and communities.
Anyone is eligible for nomination – children, youth, teachers, adults, schools, community organizations, government representatives and businesses.

Rotary Tom Jackson Stay in School

On Tuesday, September 10, 2013, the Rotary Club of Calgary presented actor, singer, producer, and activist Tom Jackson with a cheque for initial funding for the Rotary Tom Jackson Stay in School initiative. The Rotary Tom Jackson Stay in School (RTJSIS) program’s mission is to positively impact Aboriginal children’s high school graduation rates through mentoring, tutoring, and general support across Canada and throughout North America. The program began last year with one mentoring match, and has expanded to 5 mentoring matches for the 2013-2014 school year. The Alberta Mentoring Partnership congratulates the Rotary Club of Calgary, Tom Jackson, and the Rotary Tom Jackson Stay In School program for their valuable work with the children and youth in Calgary.
